What is Laser Printing?

Laser printing is a modern and unique printing technique that uses fast and powerful laser beams to create designs on the surface of fabric. In this process, no type of ink or color is used; rather, it slightly burns the upper surface of the fabric or removes its top layer to emboss a specific pattern or motif.

Laser rays impact the fabric with extreme accuracy, as a result of which the color or texture of the fabric changes, and the original or a different shade underneath appears. This technique is mostly used on denim (jeans), thick cotton fabrics, canvas, and jacket fabrics because these fabrics can better withstand the heat of the laser and the designs appear more effectively on them. On soft or thin fabrics such as light jersey or stretch fabric this technique is not practical because they can get damaged by the heat of the laser.
The greatest advantages of laser printing are:
● It is environmentally safe because no chemical or ink is used.
● The breathability of the fabric does not get affected.
● Even the most complex and fine designs can be created very neatly and precisely.
● It is permanent and durable, it does not fade with time.
This printing is often used to make patterns, logos, or artistic effects on jeans pants, through which a unique and stylish look is achieved.

Types of Laser Printing

CO₂ Laser Printing. This is the most common type of laser printing, which is especially used in the textile and denim industry. In this, carbon dioxide laser rays are used which burn the upper surface of the fabric with extreme precision to create design, logo, or pattern. Since this is based on targeted heat, fine detailing is possible.

Fiber Laser Printing.
This laser is mainly used for metal or hard surfaces, but sometimes also for special types of hard and thick fabrics, for example jackets, canvas, or some special denim fabrics. It is effective for deeper laser marking.

UV Laser Printing. This laser uses extremely fine and powerful waves of light which are better for delicate materials or special colors. However, its use in the fabric industry is less, and it is mostly used for special applications or branding where the sensitivity of the fabric has to be considered.

How does the process of Laser Printing work?

Laser printing is a non-contact and high-technology based process which consists of the following stages:

1. Design Preparation:
First, a specific graphic, logo, or text design is prepared on computer, which is uploaded into the laser machine.

2. Fabric Positioning: The fabric on which the design has to be printed is placed on the bed of the laser machine completely straight and stable so that accuracy of printing is ensured.

3. Selecting Laser Settings: The power, speed, and frequency of the laser are adjusted according to the type of fabric and nature of the design. For example, low power on delicate fabric and high power on thick fabric.

4. Creating Design with Laser Heat: Laser rays focus on the surface of the fabric with extreme precision and produce heat, through which burning or color-changing action happens on the surface. This very heat engraves or highlights the desired design on the fabric.

5. Quality Check and Final Process: After printing is complete, the quality of the fabric is checked to ensure that the design is clean, clear, and at the correct place. Sometimes additional finishing such as slight brushing or cleaning is also done.

FAQ'S

Laser printing is a technique in which designs, logos, or artwork are engraved on the surface of the fabric through laser beams. This printing actually does not use any type of ink; rather it works only through the power of light and heat, which marks the upper surface of the fabric without applying anything.

Is Laser Printing environmentally friendly?

Yes, since in laser printing no chemical, ink, or water-based material is used, it is considered an eco-friendly printing technique. It is especially best for companies that want to adopt cheap, clean, and environmentally safe methods.

abcThis printing is mostly done on fabrics that are thick, hard, or strong in structure, such as:
● Denim (jeans)
● Canvas
● Leather or synthetic leather
● Fabrics used for jackets and coats
● Foam-backed or composite fabrics
Soft, thin, and stretchable fabrics such as jersey or cotton-lycra are generally not used for this technique.

Is Laser Printing possible for all order sizes?

Laser printing is more effective in small or medium-sized orders, because this process is relatively fast but each garment has to be placed separately in position. For large-scale production, time management is necessary.

No, laser printing does not add color. It only leaves a mark on the surface of the fabric, which usually appears in the form of lighter or darker smoky or burnt effect. It gives a tone-on-tone style, which is popular in fashion or industrial style.

Can Laser Printing damage the fabric?

With correct settings and machine use, the fabric does not get damaged. If the technician correctly sets the laser power, speed, and focus, then neither will the fabric burn nor break. However, in case of faulty machine or lack of experience, damage can happen.

Laser printing is very durable because it does not create a layer of ink or print, but directly engraves the surface of the fabric. This is why it remains even after repeated washing, especially when done properly.

Can jackets or pants with Laser Printing be ironed?

Yes, but with care. Since the laser print has become part of the surface of the fabric, instead of using hot iron directly, it is better to place a cloth on top and iron with mild heat.

This technique is generally used on the following products:
● Branded designs on jeans
● Logos or patterns on denim jackets
● Leather or artificial leather bags
● Promotional jackets

Is Laser Printing a better choice for branding?

If your brand focuses on denim, leather, or jackets, then laser printing provides a high-quality, permanent, and unique printing style which makes your design stand out.
